WIP ~ Tuesday

Let me just tell you that it feels good to have some of my creative mojo back!
I’ve actually have a few things in the works at the moment. Ok I take that back, I have A LOT of things in various stages that I’m working on. But I have 2 things that I am currently working on and hope to finish in the next few days.
I have a few more digital pieces that are in various stages of completion. I’m starting to wonder if I have an OCD or something because I just can’t seem to focus on one thing at a time, I have to have my hands in all kinds of projects all at once! Haha that’s probably why all the projects around the house are in various stages of completion (hubby’s going to help me finish them off one by one though). Anyway, I digress.
You remember my Water Altar that I created last year? Well I finally got around to getting a piece of wood for the other 3! They are still in the painting process, but I look forward to adding all the details and hanging them up when they are finished right next to the other. It’ll be nice to have a finished set.
I’ve been seeing a lot of art dolls lately and have always wanted to create my own but never found a pattern that I liked and that I didn’t have to pay for. It never dawned on me to create my own until I was working on one of my digital pieces. We’ll call it my DUH moment! So I’ve spent an afternoon drawing up a design. This is actually the second run at my pattern. The first run at it I’ve decided the parts were too small and so I drew them a bit bigger. So far it’s working out pretty well. It might need some more tweaking though, we’ll see.
So I am off for more painting and hand sewing. Hopefully my doll will be ready for a face and details tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a productive day!

Elemental Goddesses Round 2

You remember the set of Elemental Goddesses that I did for the Elemental Swap on Craftster?

Here are 2 more sets that I have completed for personal swaps. These were done in the same style as the first, just different positions of the body, and in one set different Elementals.

I'm really pleased with how both sets turned out. I have the problem of not being able to choose a favorite, I love how both sets turned out lol. I will definitely have to sit down one of these days and make a set for myself.

Elemental Goddess

For the Elemental Swap on Crafster, I made my partner a set of art nouveau inspired Goddess paintings. I wasn't familiar with the style but after some research and looking through other art nouveau pieces, I really enjoy the style. And since my partner has received them, I can post without spoiling surprises!

This is a picture of the whole set. Each one is painted on a thin piece of wood and then sealed.

Earth Goddess

I primed each piece of wood, painted the background, drew a circle the size I wanted, taped off the circle with blue painters tape, then primed the center of the circle. After all that prep work, it was the fun task of painting.

Air Goddess

The background on Air is actually silver. I guess silver doesn't photograph very well outdoors. Each painting was done in the colors that my partner associated with each element: Earth- greens and browns, Air- white and silver, Water- blues and turquoise, Fire- reds. I also incorporated the symbols that she used for each of the elements as well.

Fire Goddess

Water Goddess

I really do love how these came out. I might just have to make a set for myself.

Happy Crafting!

Polymer Clay Mask Series

Another project that I and currently working on is a clay mask series. I've decided that I'm going to make masks representing the 4 elements (Earth, Air, Water, Fire) as well as Spirit. Each one is going to have different embellishments that I feel represent that particular element.

I've finished Earth Spirit and am very happy with how it turned out, considering it's my first actual facial sculpture (realistic looking facial features is not my strong area). And I've created my next form which I feel is going to be water. I can't wait to get started on that one, should be fun. I picked up some fun fibers which remind me of water. Maybe I'll get to work on it some while the kiddo naps today.

Anywhoos.. here's Earth Spirit (looks kind of at home on the laptop in front of my large living room windows lol).

Earth Spirit
polymer clay, silk leaves, natural raffia, wooden beads, pinecones, dried flowers, acrylic paint

Here's one of it hanging on our wall. The lighting in my apartment kind of sucks for taking pictures of artwork, but oh well you get the idea of it.
